Studio Due - Lighting Design of Le Nuage in Montpellier (France)
Located in the Port Marianne district of Montpellier, Le Nuage is a unique 3,000 sqm fitness and wellness center designed by Philippe Starck. Opened in 2014, it stands as a landmark of contemporary architecture and sustainable lifestyle, blending sport, health, and social interaction into one visionary space.
Known for its iconic “cloud-like” form, the building features an innovative translucent inflatable envelope made of ETFE membrane, wrapping a modular internal structure of wood and steel. This “second skin” filters natural light and enhances energy efficiency—perfectly reflecting Starck’s philosophy of combining functionality, poetry, and sustainability.
The lighting design was developed using Studio Due solutions, in collaboration with our French partner Dimatec, emphasizing a key distinctive feature: a custom RGBW+A light source engineered by Studio Due.
The Compact Bar RGBW+A fixtures blend seamlessly into the building’s organic geometry, enhancing its floating effect while delivering a refined and dynamic illumination.
Advanced previews created with Capture Visualisation software allowed full control and optimization of the final result from early design stages.
